Cross Canada Cruisers, a training ministry based on a modern parable
Sixty years ago there were no super highways and certainly no fuel pumps calibrated in litres. In the ’50s, gas was about twenty cents per gallon, and, a 1955 Buick sold new for about $2200. Of course the average yearly Canadian salary was just $2400. A great deal has changed since then. But the Fabulous Fifties and their opulent autos haven’t entirely disappeared. In fact, a few of these classics, Lord willing, will soon be rolling into towns across Ontario.
THE VISION IS REALIZED:
In its first season, after much prayer and planning, the Cruisers divided into East and West teams, each team with three classic cars and a support truck/trailer. They traversed Canada from Vancouver Island on the Pacific and Prince Edward Island on the Atlantic to join at Georgetown, Ontario for a final united gospel effort. The Lord richly blessed.
AN IMPROVED REGIONAL APPROACH:
In the following year, the ministry regrouped, and realized the objectives could be better met by thinking regionally—less wear and tear on the vehicles (and the team) but also making possible better follow-up of contacts made.
WHY USE 1950′s CARS?
The cars aren’t just for transportation. They are intended to be modern parables of life’s journey. The team members will be spreading the message of hope and salvation through Christ. Whether you’re talking about a car or a person, life produces wear and tear. What happens when we or our cars need restoration? Where do we turn for help?

At car shows, fairs, parades, or wherever people stop to admire the vehicles, the team members offer a CD called “Highway to Heaven: Fiction or Fact?” and a beautiful print of a painting titled “New Life for Olds.” They take the opportunity not only to talk about the old cars and the happy memories they inspire; they also want to offer, for those with broken dreams, broken hearts, or broken relationships, that there is a Heavenly Restoration Service available with 24-hour service. There is One Person in all the universe who can promise:
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He hath sent Me to heal the brokenhearted…” (Luke 4:18).
